Jason Sudeikis wasn't aware that his ex-fiancée Olivia Wilde would be served with legal papers relating to the couple's children live on stage during her CinemaCon presentation on Tuesday, a source close to the situation tells EW.

"Mr. Sudeikis had no prior knowledge of the time or place that the envelope would have been delivered, as this would solely be up to the process service company involved, and he would never condone her being served in such an inappropriate manner," the source says of the incident, which EW previously confirmed took place as Wilde addressed an auditorium full of people about her upcoming directorial effort Don't Worry Darling.

As Wilde spoke to the crowd at the Las Vegas event, an unidentified woman approached the director-star with the envelope — which was labeled "Personal and Confidential" — and slid it to the middle of the stage.

"This is for me?" Wilde asked, observing that it was a "very mysterious" interaction.

She continued, "I'm going to open it now because it feels like it's a script?" but didn't reference the contents again beyond inspecting the papers and saying, "Okay, got it. Thank you."

When reached for comment, a representative for CinemaCon told EW that the exchange involving a person who was "not authorized to be there" is unprecedented amid the convention's history.

"In light of this incident, we are reevaluating our security procedures to secure the safety of all of our attendees," the representative said. "Right now we're just concentrating on as an organization what we need to do to ensure the safety of our delegates."

EW also reached out to representatives for Wilde, Sudeikis, and Don't Worry Darling for comment.

Wilde and Sudeikis began their relationship in 2011 but separated in November 2020. They share two children: Otis, 8, and Daisy, 5.

Wilde is now romantically linked with her Don't Worry Darling actor Harry Styles, whom she called a "revelation" in the upcoming psychological thriller that also stars Florence Pugh, Gemma Chan, Chris Pine, and Kiki Layne. Wilde also joked during her CinemaCon presentation that the pop superstar is "an up-and-coming actor with no other career that I'm aware of."
